Job Title: Engineering Technician

Job Overview:
Contemporary Staffing Solutions is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our client to support the performance, reliability, and ongoing improvement of facility automation and HVAC-related control systems. This temporary-to-hire opportunity is based in Indianapolis, IN and requires an onsite work arrangement. The Engineering Technician will help maintain building automation equipment, support controls-related projects, and ensure field work is completed safely, accurately, and in alignment with operational standards. This role is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys troubleshooting, documentation, project support, and cross-functional collaboration in a regulated facility environment.

Compensation:
Up to $28/hr

Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, normal business hours; flexibility to work adjusted hours, days, or overtime as needed to support 24/7 plant operations.

Key Responsibilities of the Engineering Technician:

  • Support installation, wiring, routing, termination, and removal activities for building automation equipment, HVAC controls, control panels, devices, and related facility systems.
  • Perform troubleshooting, inspections, preventive maintenance, system checks, and work order completion to help maintain reliable operation of air handling, chilled water, hot water, exhaust, damper, valve, and other controlled equipment.
  • Contribute to facility improvement and controls optimization projects by conducting walkthroughs, reviewing work requirements, supporting field execution, and helping ensure completed work meets site expectations.
  • Maintain accurate technical records by assisting with drawing updates, equipment and points lists, SOPs, training materials, change control documentation, test plans, validation support, and project-related reporting.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, management, contractors, vendors, and other partners to provide technical support, communicate project status, and help resolve field issues effectively.
  • Promote a safe, compliant, and organized work environment by following procedures, identifying hazards or equipment concerns, documenting issues appropriately, and supporting established operational goals.

Qualifications and Skills for the Engineering Technician:

  • Associate degree in Industrial Mechanics Technology, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related technical discipline is strongly preferred; equivalent hands-on training, apprenticeship experience, or relevant certifications may also be considered.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience with air handling equipment, HVAC controls, building automation, control wiring, systems integration, or similar BAS platforms such as Siemens, BACnet, or comparable systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years of maintenance or engineering experience within a regulated or procedure-driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and facility systems, including chilled water, hot water, air handlers, heat exchangers, pumps, VAVs, compressors, terminal equipment, and related utility systems.
  • Ability to read and apply wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, controls drawings, scopes of work, technical documents, and field work plans.
  • Experience with HVAC controls, BAS, energy management systems, electrical installation practices, code-aware documentation, construction processes, inspections, testing, and small to mid-sized facility projects.
  • Familiarity with field measurement tools and controls-related equipment such as multimeters, air data meters, anemometers, flow hoods, PLCs, VFDs, and similar devices; VFD troubleshooting or programming experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently, adjust priorities, and interact professionally with internal teams, customers, subcontractors, vendors, and OEM partners.
